My photography journey started long ago taking shots of race cars at the drag strip using point and shoot film cameras.  It was painfully time consuming and expensive. Years later I rediscovered photography after enrolling in b/w photo classes at college. In the darkroom learned how different papers, chemistry, and printing techniques, could create a wide range of visual effects. The darkroom became my second home. In the early 1990's, as digital cameras arrived on the scene, the demand for artisan papers and chemistry slowed to a trickle. This turned the photography industry upside down. The "art" of capturing photographs was irreversibly altered. I reluctantly decided shelve my Pentax 6x7 and join the digital age. It was a difficult transition for me. I felt lost without my darkroom, but I still had this desire to create photographs. It took me several years after purchasing my first DSLR before I felt comfortable using the new technology. Looking back I’ve come to recognize I’m better suited for the outdoors as opposed to the close confines of the darkroom. I still for the dark room days, but the freedom and simplicity of shooting with a DSLR provides me the opportunity to problem solve on site. Today, I shoot primarily natural scenery, but also I also enjoy photographing a variety of other subjects simply because it forces me out of my comfort zone and creates a new set of problems to solve. Because that's the foundation of photography- problem solving.
